Davis hailed for leading Taiwanese

MANILA, Philippines - Quincy Davis would be considered a hero by the Taiwanese people for his gallant effort leading Chinese Taipei to its historic conquest of China in Asian basketball, Taiwanese sportswriters said.

The Taiwanese sports scribes were all over Davis after playing his best game at the right moment, keying the Taiwanese’ upset of the Chinese.

“I really play my best playing against big guys. I’m challenged, and I try to outrun and outwork them,” said Davis, coming through with 26 points and 10 rebounds against Yi Jianlian and Wang Zhizhi.

He insisted he’s not surprised they beat the mighty China team.

“I believe we can win, that’s why I’m here,” said the Chinese Taipei naturalized player.

Passing his test against Yi and Wang, the former Tulane U star said he’s now looking forward to his showdown with Hamed Haddadi.

“He’s also bigger and a big test. I’ll try my best. There are my teammates with me. We help each other,” said Davis, hopeful they can also pull the rug from under Iran.

Chinese Taipei has never finished better than fourth in the last 11 editions of the Asian meet. The Taiwanese go for a record feat versus the Iranians in their semis duel tonight.
