MANILA, Philippines - The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) showed up with their guns loaded to annihilate the Department of Justice, 117-71, in the inaugural game  of the first UNTV Cup held recently at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

Winston Sergio topscored for the Cavaliers with 25 points, 11 of which he delivered in the first period that gave his team a commanding 33-16 advantage.

There was no turning back for the squad being handled by Col. Alfredo Cayco as Jerick Galiza, Ian San Esteban, Wilfredo Casulla, multi-titled cager Eugene Tan and former PBA player Ronaldo Cahanding scored at will in the next quarters to rack up its first win in this seven-team tournament.

“We’ve been practicing hard and you can see that we displayed organized basketball from offense to defense,” said Cayco.

Galiza added 18 points, San Esteban chipped in 12 while Tan and Casulla poured 10 points each for the Cavaliers who scored 31 points each in the final two quarters.

Iluminado Cabrido had 16 points to pace the losing team.
