Superal, Chabon stay in hunt in Sacramento

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Princess Superal wavered coming home and settled for a 72 to trail Emilee Hoffman of the US by three at the start of the Sacramento City Junior Golf Championship at the Haggin Oaks Complex in California Wednesday.

Superal, priming up for next week US Women’s Amateur, went up and down thrice at the back but failed to return a six-footer for par on the 17th and finished with 35-37 card at the par-72 Arcade Creek Course.

The top ICTSI-backed bet, who hit three birdies against two more bogeys, stood three shots off Hoffman, who bogeyed the last hole but still shot a three-under 69.

Sabrina Virtusio and Camille Wagg, also of the US, and China’s Angela Zhang fumbled with identical 76s for joint third in the girls’ 15-17 category.

Sofia Chabon missed grabbing the lead in the 12-14 division with three bogeys in the last eight holes, ending up with a 76, one behind American Angela Bagasbas.

Chabon looked headed for a decent start with a 37 at the front but dropped shots on Nos. 11, 14 and the par-5 18th, enabling Bagasbas to wrest control.

Abegail Arevalo skied to an 84 for joint fifth with Nicole Schroeder.
