Biado finishes 2nd in US Open 8-ball
MANILA, Philippines - Carlo Biado bowed to American Shane Van Boening, 13-11, in the finals of the US Open 8-Ball Championship at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, yesterday.
Biado, who won the Hard Times 10-Ball Open last week in Los Angeles, nipped compatriots Francisco “Django’ Bustamante, 8-7, and Warren Kiamco, 8-6, then toppled Taiwan’s Sean Cheng, 8-5, in the one-loss side to gain a crack at the crown.
He traded breaks with Van Boening 14 times in row but the American took three of the last four racks to beat the Filipino and pocket the top purse of $15,000. Biado took home $8,500.
With the score tied at 10, Biado made a scratch on the 21st, enabling Van Boening to go one-rack up again but the American missed a shot and Biado ran out for another deadlock.
But Biado failed to score a break and run, missing a tough shot and allowing Van Boening to seize another 12-11 lead before wrapping up the crown on the 24th.
