FCVBA sweeps Jakarta veterans tiff

MANILA, Philippines - The Fil-Chinese Veterans Basketball Association (FCVBA) swept its opening game matches in three age divisions in a big start in the 22nd ASEAN Veterans basketball tournament at the ASABA Club in Jakarta Wednesday.

Led by former University of the East coach Lawrence Chongson, ex-Ginebra player Benny Cheng and Braulio Lim, FCVBA scored a surprisingly easy 64-44 win over Kuala Lumpur to kick off its three-peat bid in the 40-years-and-above division.

Lim, a former UE standout, and Chongson each shot 10 points.

The FCVBA’s 50-and-above team of former La Salle star Kenneth Yap, University of Santo Tomas’ Rudy Yu, Letran’s Jerry Gonzales and UE’s Julio Cruz also pulled off a 46-40 victory over Kuala Lumpur.

FCVBA capped the day with a 48-36 romp over Brunei in the 60-years-and-above division where PBA veteran Sunny Co scattered 10 points, highlighted by two triples.
