PBA to Sports5: 'It's either TV5 or IBC-13'

MANILA, Philippines – The ball is now in Sports5’s hands.

The PBA Board of Governors has decided with finality on its stand in the long drawn TV coverage impasse.

“It’s either TV5 or IBC-13,” PBA Commissioner Chito Salud told Philstar.com in a telephone interview on Thursday afternoon after representatives of Sports 5, TV5’s sports arm, presented a new proposal to the league board.

The PBA has turned down the latest proposal by TV5 to air the games on separate VHF channels.

Under the new proposal that was immediately thumbed down, the first game will air on IBC-13 with the second game on TV5 for the season-ending Governors’ Cup only with the coverage to be moved to Aksyon41, TV5’s news and sports UHF channel, for the final three seasons of the five-year deal starting next year.

TV5 is currently improving the reach of its UHF channel to be stronger than IBC-13, the league’s home for the past one-and-a-half.

“Final na ang stand ng board (of governors).  Both games should be aired live on one VHF channel only as it is stipulated in the contract,” Salud said. “Nasa TV5 na ngayon ang desisyon.”

Sports5, which was represented by top executives Peter Chan Liong and Vitto Lazatin, has promised to return with its final decision on Wednesday.
