Miranda, Cabrera duel in Coke race

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Daniel Miranda and Gabe Cabrera brace for a fierce showdown as they clash in the third leg of the Coca-Cola Karting Super Series at the Kart Track Boomland this Sunday.

Miranda of Cebuana Lhuillier guns for his third straight victory as he tries to firm up his bid for the Karter of the Year honors while Cabrera of Seaoil-DC-Kilton is out to foil him in the event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines.

Cabrera, fresh from his victory in the Asian Karting Formula 125 Open Juniors division, also seeks to nail his third victory in the Formula SL Novice and upstage the Expert drivers again in the combined race.

Miranda pounced on the absence of the series’ big guns to pull off another sweep in the ROK Senior and ROK overall categories of the series sponsored by Coca-Cola Philippines and Yokohama.

But Cabrera, the youngest driver of top Japanese factory team Kosmic, proved to be a worthy challenger, momentarily grabbing the front seat before Miranda escaped by just 0.205 of a second.

Others tipped to contend are veterans Bobby Domingo of Formula-E Racing and top female karter Sacha Feliciano along with CJ Tsui, junior karters Raymond Cudala of Tough Gear Racing and Wayne Darvin of Total Racing and ROK Clubman Liam Linao.

Yvana Carangan, meanwhile, hopes to power AUTS Racing to another 1-2-3 finish in the Formula SL Expert division along with teammates Carl Luig and Brian Thorp up against Carlos Lorenzo and Bjonar Eikevik of CityKart, Mary Allison Julian of One Racing
