San Beda’s Amer gets NCAA Player of the Week honors

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – San Beda guard Baser Amer was named ACCEL/3XVI-NCAA Press Corps Player of the Week after leading the Red Lions to two straight wins in the NCAA senior men’s basketball tournament.

After its shock defeat to Lyceum, San Beda, slowly regaining its championship form, posted emphatic victories against Arellano University and Emilio Aguinaldo College.

In those triumphs, the Lions needed a strong fourth quarter, thanks to the efforts of Amer, who is averaging 13 points, six assists and 3.5 rebounds in the past two games.

In San Beda’s 67-54 win against the Chiefs last Thursday, Amer pumped in eight of his 12 markers in the payoff period.

The Davao native dropped seven of his 14 points in the fourth quarter in the Lions’ 80-65 tripping of the Generals last Monday.

“It’s another blessing for me. Arellano and EAC are fighting teams and we can’t take them for granted. We stepped up our defense in the final quarter,” said Amer, a former NCAA juniors Finals MVP.

Amer won the weekly honor also presented by Gatorade over first week winner Raymond Almazan of Letran and Lyceum’s Dexter Zamora.
