The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Second round matches:

Riviera vs Wack Wack, Sherwood Hills vs Eastridge, Forest Hills vs Southwoods, Canlubang vs Sta. Elena, Mimosa vs Highlands, Orchard vs Alabang.

Riviera, Orchard and Valley kicked off their campaigns by sweeping their respective opponents in the season-opening matches of the Men’s Federation League in various courses recently.

Riviera, the league’s winningest team, fashioned out the most lopsided win of the opening matches – a 5-0 trashing of Sherwood Hillls at home – a week after scoring a 3-2 decision in the away game of their duel marking the start of the weekly duels among members of the Federation of Golf Clubs Phils. Inc.

Valley also made an auspicious debut with a sweep of Sta. Elena, posting a 3.5-1.5 win on the road then a 3-2 squeaker at home while Orchard scored two wins over Mimosa, 3-.5-1.5 at home and 4-1 in the away game, to be among the early leaders after the first two weeks of the match play battles.

Eagle Ridge marked its debut in the league by splitting its series with powerhouse Alabang. The Cavite club took a 4.5-.5 loss at Alabang in the season openers but fought back with a 3-2 victory at home.

In the featured match of the opening schedule, defending champion Wack Wack was held to a draw by Eastridge.

Wack Wack, keeping the core of the team that beat Canlubang for the crown last year, launched its title-retention bid with a 3-2 home win but Eastridge split the series with 2-3 decision.
