Lady Tams, Archers smother rivals

MANILA, Philippines - Defending champion Far Eastern University and De La Salle opened their respective UAAP Season 76 campaigns with a pair of contrasting wins yesterday at the Blue Eagle Gym.

Camille Sambile came away with a double-double job of 25 points and 15 rebounds to lift the Lady Tamaraws to a 54-48 win over the Adamson Lady Falcons.

Ara Abaca and Trisha Piatos combined for 23 markers as the Lady Archers downed archrival Ateneo Lady Eagles, 54-38. 

FEU, which recorded a perfect 16-0 season last year, sustained their charge despite the graduation of former stars Allana Lim, Karen Columna and Soc Borja. 

Jinky Balasta and Joy Cochico led the way for the Lady Falcons with 16 and 12 points, respectively. 

Resurgent National University Lady Bulldogs survived a fourth quarter uprising by the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons to hack out a 60-51 triumph.

Center Maica Cortes had a double-double with 19 points and 19 rebounds and with six blocks as the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses routed the University of the East Lady Warriors, 67-45.
