Sta. Elena, Orchard share WGAP leg honors

MANILA, Philippines - Sta. Elena topped Class A and placed third in Class B while Orchard dominated Class B and wound up third in Class A as they shared top honors in the fourth leg of the 2013 Champion Infinity WGAP Circuit at the Orchard Golf and Country Club in Dasmariñas, Cavite recently.

Divina Nemec scored 44 PAL points while Rio Co and Sakura Okamura tossed in 40 apiece and Carina Ricamonte 39 as Sta. Elena pooled a 163 to beat Aguinaldo by three in the 10-to-play, four-to-count format organized by the Women’s Golf Association of the Philippines.

Aguinaldo , totaled 160, with Mabel Salivio shooting 47 points and winning the individual plum and Josie Untal, Samantha Green and Matet Salivio adding 40, 37 and 36, respectively. Orchard was one to clinch runner-up honors in the event sponsored by Champion Infinity.

The hosts, led by Nila Patricio’s 43 points, ended up with 159 while Alabang placed fourth with 155 followed by Tagaytay Highlands (152), Forest Hills (149), Canlubang 145) and Villamor (131) in that order.

Orchard, with Myrna Sutherland firing 41 points and Angela Park and Irene Tatsumi scoring 40 each and Ysabel Catindig chipping in a 38, imposed its will in Class B, assembling a 159 to post a whopping 14-point romp over Tagaytay, which swept all three classes in the third leg at Forest Hills but could only turn in a second place finish in Class B (145) and a third place effort in Class C.

Sta. Elena came in third with a 144 followed by Alabang and Forest Hills, which both had 141s, Riviera (137), Villamor (136) and Canlubang (132).

Cangolf’s Recy Barrientos took the Class B individual honors with 41 points, nipping Riviera’s Eimee Hedeager in the countback.

Alabang, meanwhile, foiled Aguinaldo to cop the Class C plum in the event featuring the leading golfing ladies of the country’s top clubs. The Alabang ladies drew a pair of 38s from Minerva Castillo and Maria Brumann, a 37 from Belinda Eberle and a 34 from Rachel Shah, for a 147 total, winning by three over Aguinaldo, which had a 144.

Tagaytay finished third with a 137 with top player Jessalyn Tan winning the individual title with 40 points.
