Adamson legends showcase UAAP opener

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Host Adamson University will put up a grand show to kick off this year’s UAAP season with videos and participation of the league’s legends from the host school to underline the season’s theme “Greatness Never Ends.”

The keenly awaited opener will start at 12:30 p.m. at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City with former Adamson stars Hector Calma and Kenneth Duremdes leading the program, a tribute to athletes and individuals who have contributed to the UAAP’s success and stability through the years.

The theme is also meant to inspire current athletes to continue pursuing excellence and success not only in sports but in life as well.

Spicing up the event is a “Hunger Games”-pegged production number with colorful performances by dancers from Adamson and other member-schools.

The UAAP was founded in 1938 and is composed of eight big universities: Adamson University, Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, Far Eastern University, National University, University of the East, University of the Philippines, and University of Santo Tomas.

Adamson University started as the Adamson School of Industrial Chemistry in 1932 and was admitted to the UAAP in 1952 until 1954 on a probationary status. It reapplied in 1970 and has been an active member since then and last hosted the league in 2005.

The Soaring Falcons open their campaign against the UP Maroons on Sunday.
