Socceroo rips Laos side for UFL sweep
MANILA, Philippines - Team Socceroo FC overpowered Laos FC, 8-1, to complete a historic sweep of the Second Division and formally clinch its spot in the top division of the United Football League at the Emperador Stadium in McKinley Hill Thursday night.
Lee Jeong Woo spearheaded the onslaught, scoring on the 38th minute as the Socceroo booters completed a 16-game season sweep to pool 48 match points. Lee also took the best scorer honors with with 14 goals.
The victory also assured Team Socceroo’s place in the elite group alongside newly crowned Stallion FC.
Other goal scorers for Team Socceroo were Jeon Shin Seok (10th), Song Woo (11th), William Richards (22th), Kang Dae Han (46th), Jude Duruachazie (77th) and Patrick Wleh (92nd).
Laos FC, which drew its lone goal from Abdalla Ahmed on the 51st, finished fifth overall with 21 points on six wins and three draws against seven defeats.
In the final First Division game, Global FC waylaid Phl Army FC, 3-0, to finish second behind Stallion FC with 14 points on 14 wins and a standoff against three setbacks.
Misagh Bahadoran, Jerry Barbaso and Antonio Martinez de Murga provided the goals for the Global booters on the 17th, 42nd and 53rd minute, respectively.
