Twitter heats up during NBA Finals Game 6

Alder Almo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Twitter heated up during the closing minutes of regulation of the NBA Finals Game 6 between the Miami Heat and the San Antonio Spurs and exploded immediately right after Ray Allen buried the game-tying three-pointer.

The manner the Heat won the epic Game 6 was likened by some local hoops fans to that of the most popular team in the PBA - Brgy. Ginebra Kings' never-say-die spirit. Others have hailed Allen as the hero of Game 6 and tweeted Jesus Shuttleworth, his character in the basketball-themed movie He Got Game that starred Denzel Washington in 1998.

Netizens have also noticed Lebron James took over when he took out his headband showing his fading hairline that became the butts of joke in the social media. Then some also showed some love for Chris Bosh, who was much criticized for being soft in the entire series until his offensive rebound that led to Allen's game-tying three-pointer and two huge blocks on Tony Parker and Danny Green in San Antonio's last two plays.

Even local celebrities, PBA and NBA players tweeted about the game and some hailed it as the best game of the season hands down.

The advent of social media especially the  social networking sites such as Twitter have helped promote and hype huge social events such as the NBA finals. The social media tool have made the game more exciting and allowed the fans to converge and connect with each other as if viewing the game in just one big room together where they can bash, cheer and comment on the game spot on.

Expect Twitter to explode anew when the Heat and Spurs meet for the last time this season on Friday 9 a.m. (Manila time) to decide on who'll be crowned as the NBA champions
