Standout Stats: NBA Finals Game 3

Aldo Avinante - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – The Miami Heat and the San Antonio Spurs have traded blowout games in the NBA Finals. But the Spurs have the latest laugh so far with their 113-77 rout of the Heat in Game 3 for a 2-1 series lead.

In that lopsided Game 3, some glaring stats came out. Here are 10 of them:

1. San Antonio set the NBA Finals record of 3-pointers made, draining 16 from downtown.

2. The Spurs’ Danny Green and Gary Neal punched in career playoff-high in points with 27 and 24, respectively.

3. The sweet-shooting duo of the Spurs (Green and Neal) combined for an impressive 13-of-19 or 68 percent 3-point field goal shooting.

4. As a team, the Spurs shot 16-of-32 from the 3-point area for a 50 percent shooting clip.

5. The Heat have a shooter on automatic too. Mike Miller was a perfect 5-of-5 from the 3-point zone and shooting 90 percent from the area for the series.

6. The 113-77 victory of the Spurs is the third largest margin of victory (36 points) in the history of the NBA Finals.

7. The Spurs’ Big Three of Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili have won 100 playoff games together – which is second all-time to the 80s Lakers trio of Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Michael Cooper.

8. For the second straight blowout game, both teams were able to field in all their 12 players.

9. Reigning MVP LeBron James shot poorly (7/21) and finished with only 15 markers – his lowest scoring output in this year’s NBA Finals.

10. 2007 Finals MVP Tony Parker suffered a mild hamstring injury early in the second half and managed to only score six points in 27 minutes of playing time.
