The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - UP blasted the Philippine Youth team, 75-53, to reach the semifinals of the 19th Fr. Martin Summer Cup basketball tournament at the Trinity University of Asia gym in QC last Monday.

The Maroons stamped their class early, seizing a 21-13 lead then never looked back to finish Group A with a 5-2 record and join Adamson in the next round.

The Falcons topped the group with a 6-1 slate.

Earlier, Fatima University escaped with a 58-56 win over AMA Computer College in women’s play.

Meanwhile, San Beda tied UP at 5-2 following back-to-back wins over Lyceum, 74-73, and PATTS College of Aeronautics, 84-49. But the Maroons advanced to the semis on a superior quotient.

Martin Pascual made nine and Chris Ball eight, while Raul Soyud and Julius Wong had seven markers each for the Maroons, who will clash with the National University Bulldogs at 11 a.m. in today’s start of the semis, also at the Trinity University of Asia.

The Falcons and the University of Perpetual Help Altas clash for the other finals berth at 12:30 p.m.
