MANILA, Philippines - First-timers Rodolfo Farales and Roberto dela Cruz humbled a stellar field to cop the top honors in the 25k kayak marathon of the Anvaya Cove Kayak Explore at the Anvaya Cove Beach and Nature Club in Morong, Bataan recently.
Farales, a lifeguard, and Dela Cruz took line honors in the first leg then placed second to Jeffrey Sison and Romeo Castro in the second leg to win the overall title in the kick off leg of this year’s Philippine Kayaking Series.
Farales and Dela Cruz clocked 3:28.34 overall, beating Sison and Castro, who timed 3:30.06. Emmanuel Relos and Raquel Espinosa turned in a 3:42.38 clocking as they ended up third in the event organized by Sun and Sea Sports Systems and The Lighthouse Marina and backed by host venue Anvaya Cove Beach and Nature Club, Ayala Land, SBMA, DOT-Region 3, Harbor Point Mall and Manila North Tollways Corp.
In the 1k beach run-5k kayak race, Juan Plaza and Dinson Dalamas of Davao also hacked out a big win for first timers as they defeated Sherwin Canlas and Antonio Labadia while Anvaya Cove staffers Raymond Sandoval and Romy Yara came in third.
Twins Precious and Jesus Bolotanta from Olongapo topped the 3k novice race, besting dragon boaters Jasmin Bonador and Marie Kristine Mandap. Anvaya Cove’s Kate Lim and Alvin Joyno placed third.
Joey and Thea Cuerdo of sponsorig Mojo Sandals and Power-up topped the Crazy 8 division.
