Sherwood Hills, NGAP’s new home, hosts Putra Cup

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Sherwood Hills Golf Club, one of the more active golf destination south of Manila, is fast gaining recognition as the newest home of the National Golf Association, the country’s body for golf.

The club, headed by lawyer Harry Paltongan, has already hosted a major NGAP event in May and is getting ready for the 53rd Putra Cup, or the Southeast Asian Amateur Golf Team Championship, from June 27 to 30.

“Sherwood is actually the new home of the NGAP. We are opening our doors to NGAP to fully support the country’s golf development,” said Paltongan, also president of club manager Suntrust Properties Inc. (SPI).

The Putra Cup, the unofficial team championship in the Southeast Asian region, is expected to draw teams from Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Myanmar, Hong Kong and the Philippines as the host in four days of competitive action.

Sherwood Hills was selected by the NGAP and organizer ASEAN Golf Federation based on impressive developments ever since SPI took over the management side in 2011.

In two years, the club experienced unprecedented growth with the construction of two function rooms, nine-hole mini golf course, two swimming pools, and a game room.

Pretty soon, Paltongan also said, four of the next nine holes, which are on priority status, will be operational while the whole nine will be inaugurated sometime in 2014.
