MANILA, Philippines - Multi-titled Jody Coseteng of Eagle Cement Racing gears up for his second straight triumph as he takes on the country’s top circuit drivers in the second leg of the 2013 Yokohama Philippine Grand Touring Car Championships this weekend at the Batangas Racing Circuit.
Coseteng seeks a repeat in both the Sprint and Final races in the GT 300 class in the event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines which also features the Philmiracers Classic Mini Racing and the VW KaFer Cup Pilipinas.
Coseteng used his experience to fend off South Korean Peter Kim of S-Oil Racing, who took the challenger’s role in the absence of defending champion Vincent Floirendo and veteran Jojo Silverio in the kickoff leg.
Kim finished just 0.183 of a second behind in the Sprint race with Willy Torres, Arnel Carlos and newcomer karting champ Milo Rivera checking in third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
In the final race, Kim set the early pace but Coseteng wrested the lead and went on to complete his sweep. Rivera turned in a surprise third place finish.
Coseteng, however, remains wary of his chances, expecting a strong fightback from Kim and Torres in the event sponsored by official oil Petronas Lubricants, official tires Yokohama, and media partners Racing Beat@Wave 89.1 and Inside Motoring on DZRJ 810khz.
Arnel Carlos and Milo Rivera, meanwhile, dispute the GT200 title, with JP Tuason of Tuason Racing and Dwight Kevin Carlos tipped to fight it out in the GT300 class along with Coseteng and Allen Macaraig in the GT100 division.
