Jungolf Interclub on at Malarayat

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Twenty-five teams representing 12 clubs are seeing action in the JGFP-ICTSI Jungolf Interclub tournament firing off today at the Mt. Malarayat Golf and Country Club in Lipa, Batangas.

Coming off a successful launch to the Philippine Golf Foundation Junior Masters Series, the organizing Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines caps the biggest-ever summer circuit with its 11th leg that has drawn more than a hundred players.

Six champions from the PGF tourney – John Catalan, Dan Cruz, Ira Alido, Josh Jorge, Annika Cedo and Annika Pineda Cayabyab – will try to lead their respective teams to victory in the three-division competition.

Catalan, Cruz and Cedo make up a solid Philippine Navy bid in Division 1 for players 13-17 years. Alido also plays for Navy in Division 2 for players 9-12 years where Jorge is backstopping reigning Junior World 7-8 years titlist Jed Dy for the Ayala Greenfield bid while Cayabyab competes in Division 3 for 8 years and below.

Also represented in the tourney are the Army Golf Club, Del Monte, Fernando Golf Club, Club Intramuros, Canlubang Golf and Country Club, Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club, Eastridge Golf Club, San Pascual Golf Club and Mt. Malarayat Golf Club.

Del Monte bets are challenging the expected domination of Metro Manila teams after figuring well during the PGF Series.

There are six teams competing in Division 1, nine teams in Division 2 and five in Division 3.

Players with no teams can also vie in the individual competition.

Notably absent  is Aguinaldo which completed a three-division sweep last year at Eagle Ridge.

The event is supported by the Pancake House Group of Companies, Teriyaki Boy, Sizzlin Pepper, Golf Depot and McDonald’s.
