Shakey’s V-League Finals goes ‘live’

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Game Two of the Shakey’s V-League Season 10 First Conference Finals will be shown live tomorrow on GMA News TV Channel 11 with Ateneo going for a sweep of its best-of-three title series with National U at the MOA Arena in Pasay City.

The organizing Sports Vision said live coverage of the games will start at 1 p.m. for the Adamson-UST match for third place with the Lady Falcons likewise seeking to wrap up their series after taking Game One in five sets last Thursday.

The Ateneo-NU duel is set at 3 p.m.

Games can also be seen on live streaming at www.v-league.ph or facebook.

The Lady Eagles posted a straight-set win over the Lady Bulldogs in the series’ opener, 25-15, 25-22, 25-23. Though it came as a shock to most volley fans, who had expected the Bulldogs to gut it out after topping the elims to the semis, it hardly surprised Ateneo coach Roger Gorayeb.

The veteran coach drew solid games from guest players Jeng Bualee and Rachel Ann Daquis while Amy Ahomiro and Marge Tejada stepped up to help carry the defending back-to-back champions to victory.

Their net defense and superb reception likewise clipped the vaunted NU offense with the league’s top hitter and top scorer Dindin Santiago held to just seven points and the rest failing to take over.

But the Lady Bulldogs are expected to settle down and bounce back strong in Game Two as they try to force a sudden death and stay in the hunt for a breakthrough win in the league sponsored by Shakey’s and backed by Mikasa and Accel.

The decider will be held June 2 at the Philsports Arena.
