Aguilar dominates Kopiko supercross

MANILA, Philippines - Veteran Glenn Aguilar bounced back from a setback in Dumaguete by dominating the field in the Pro Open category in the fifth leg of the Kopiko Astig 3-in-One Supercross Series before over 30,000 fans in Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte over the weekend.

Aguilar, of KTM Access Plus, took charge early and sustained his pace throughout the 15-lap race to beat Juvenille Abellar in a victory that more than made up for his stinging loss to Jonjon Adlawan of Team Kopiko in Dumaguete City.

Aboy Yapparcon pounced on the Dondon Yuzon and Bornok Mangosong collision and snatched third place in the premier division of the event held over a challenging track spruced up to championship condition and which drew a record field of 199 riders.

“This track was particularly challenging,” said Jake Alcordo, operations manager of the organizing Man & Machine Racing Promotions. “It rained every day for two weeks leading up to the races, necessitating constant repair of the track. But the riders pitched in, literally combing the track. This show of unity makes all the hard work worth it.”

A total of P500,000 in prizes was staked in 16 divisions in the event held in conjunction with the city’s annual fiesta celebrations. The winners each received 25 points for the Rider of the Year Award to be given out at the end of the season.
