Cano, Latorre advance

MANILA, Philippines - Top seed Joshua Andrew Cano bashed Elijah Peter Pangilinan, 6-0, 6-1, ninth pick Jeremiah Latorre waylaid Wilmer Sabas, 6-3, 6-0, to arrange a quarterfinal showdown in the 18-under division for boys in the Toby’s Sports-Prince Tennis Festival 2013 at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center yesterday.

Also advancing were No. 3 Argil Lance Canizares, 6-3, 6-3 winner over No. 16 Vincent Alamis, No. 7 Abdul Quohar Allian, who downed Erj Gatdula, 6-3, 6-0, No. 13 Bernlu Leroy Bering, who trounced Mark Erwin Concepcion, 6-1, 6-2, No. 8 Joachim Samson, who slammed No. 6 Jose Niclas Cano, 6-1, 6-2, and No. 2 Eric Olivarez Jr., who overwhelmed John Ezra Relatores, 6-0, 6-1.

Olivarez also made his presence felt in the boys 16-under where he is the top seed and waylaid No. 13 Tomas Puno, 6-1, 6-2, to barge into the semifinals against giant-slayer Brysl Libao, who shellshocked No. 8 Joel Atienza, 6-2, 6-2, in one of the major upsets in this weeklong tournament  presented by Toby’s Sports and Prince in cooperation with the Philippine Tennis Association (PHILTA), Equipe, Adidas, Lonsdale, Kangaroos & urbanAthletics.

No. 15 Miguel dela Paz also surged ahead after he turned back Abdullah Madcasim, 6-2, 6-4, and will clash with Erj Gatdula, who won via forfeiture after a no show by Jet Justin Asilo.
