Shakey’s VL braces for record turnout

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - With four teams with a huge following making it to the Shakey’s V-League Season 10 Final Four, organizers are expecting a record crowd in the semis all the way to the finals of the league’s First Conference.

In fact, Sports Vision has tapped the bigger Philsports Arena in Pasig and the MOA Arena in Pasay as the Final Four and Finals venues to accommodate the expected big number of fans and supporters of each team in what could be the most tightly fought championship ever.

“The last time these four teams were featured in a single playdate, it drew so much crowd that we had to turn back thousands of fans who couldn’t be accommodated at The Arena,” said Sports Vision chair Moying Martelino.

UST completed the dream Final Four cast with a thrilling five-set victory over a tough Perpetual Help side last Thursday. The Tigresses, who finished on top of Group 2, will take on defending back-to-back champion the Ateneo Lady Eagles.

National U, which also swept Group 1, will battle Adamson in the other marquee best-of-three semis match-up in the league sponsored by Shakey’s.

Philsports will host the first semis playdate on May 14 with Game Two set at the MOA Arena on May 16 starting at 2 p.m. A third game, if necessary, will be played back at the Philsports on May 19.

The MOA Arena will host the first two games of the finals on May 23 and 26 with the decider, if necessary, slated at the Philsports on June 2.

Games One and Two of the Finals will start at 1 p.m. and will be telecast live on GMA News TV Channel 11.

The semis matches will be aired on a delayed telecast.
