Aldo Avinante - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Arellano University fashioned out a 25-22, 25-17, 26-28 and 25-22 victory over La Salle Dasmarinas to end their Shakey’s V-League Season 10 First Conference campaign on a positive note at the Fil-Oil Flying V Arena in San Juan on Thursday.

“Last game na namin ito so sinabi ko sa mga bata na kailangan maganda yung exit namin bago matapos yung conference, kaya masaya ako nanalo kami (It’s our last game so I told the kids that we need to have a nice exit, so I’m happy we won),” said AU Head Coach Roberto Javier.

Guest player Nerissa Bautista spearheaded the Lady Chiefs’ charge with 25 points, including 22 hits, while fellow guest players Mary Jean Balse and Elaine Sagun added 19 and 15 markers, respectively.

Javier stressed the importance of their guest players to the team, acknowledging the way they provide guidance to the other players.

“Yung dalawang guest player namin makikita niyo naman yung ganda ng laro nila sa first two sets. Sila talaga nag-dadala sa team (Our two guest players, you could see that they played well in the first two sets. They are really the ones carrying the team),” said Javier.

“Pero ang importante diyan yung pag-guide at pagbibigay nila ng pointers sa mga teammates nila (But the important thing is the guidance and pointers that they give to their teammates),” he added.

Monique Tiangco and Jennifer Manzano led the Lady Patriots with 14 points each.
