Quiban paces PGF Jr Masters with 73

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Justin Quiban birdied two of the last four holes to salvage a one-over 73 and post a four-shot lead at the start of the Philippine Golf Foundation’s Junior Masters third eliminations leg at the Splendido Taal and Country Club in Nasugbu, Batangas.

Quiban went three-over after 14 holes but made a late run of birdies on Nos. 15 and 16 that pushed him ahead of Miguel Shah (77) in the Boys Division A. A stroke further was Jonas Magcalayo who had a 78 on nines of 40-38.

Ryan Monsalve made a strong 34 start but faltered with a 40 for a two-over-par 74 to lead the Boys Division B by three shots over Korean Kim Tae-woo (77). CJ Acero and Dan Cruz both had 82s for third.

Carl Corpus made a quadruple bogey 8 on the 10th and had a double-bogey 7 on the 18th but his 83 still proved enough for a one-shot lead in the Boys Division C. Karl dela Torre struggled with an 84 while Ira Alido had an 87 and Marc Coralles and Paqo Barro each carded an 89.

Jolo Magcalayo paced the Boys Division D of the event serving as the Southern Luzon stop of the PGF Junior Masters Series.

In the girls division, Korean Park Da-cheung, Annika Cedo, Ashia Nocum and Laia Barro were ahead in Classes A, B, C and D, respectively.

The top two finishers in each division will clinch berths in the finale slated at the Alabang Country Club from May 21 to 24.

The last elimination leg of the PGF Junior Masters Series will start tomorrow at the Del Monte Golf Club in Bukidnon.
