Perpetual defeats San Sebastian, stays on hunt for semis berth

MANILA, Philippines – Perpetual Help remained in contention for a semifinals seat after thwarting San Sebastian, 25-19, 25-27, 25-23 and 25-22, in the quarterfinal round of the Shakey’s V-League Season 10 First Conference at the Fil-Oil Flying V Arena in San Juan on Tuesday.

Honey Tubino and Sandra Delos Santos scored 17 points apiece, including 15 and 14 hits, respectively, to lead the Lady Altas.

But guest player Arriane Argarin stood out with her excellent set-up skills, accounting for an astonishing 38 sets out of Perpetual’s total of 42 to keep their offense humming like a well-oiled machine.

San Sebastian gave a good fight despite being out of contention after their loss against Ateneo last week. Guest player Jeng Bualee spearheaded the Lady Stags with 28 markers, including 27 kills.

Perpetual will need to beat UST on Thursday to force a playoff for a semis berth and Argarin knows what they need against their formidable foe.

“Kailangan naming pag-sikapan ang aming floor defense and receive para magkaroon kami ng chance manalo against UST (We need to work on our floor defense and receiving for us to have a chance against UST),” said Argarin.

“Siyempre imporante din na mag-improve ang communication namin as a team,” she added.

Game time is at 4 p.m. at the same venue.
