The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Reigning UAAP champion Far Eastern University rolled to its fifth straight win while Ateneo rebounded from a stunning defeat to University of the East by crushing University of Santo Tomas in the sixth FCBL-Freego Cup at the Philippine Buddhacare gym in Quezon City over the weekend.

JJ Domingo turned in a double-double performance of 19 points and 11 rebounds to power FEU past multi-titled Chiang Kai Shek College, 69-61, in the event presented by Freego.

Bradley Bienes and Richard Escoto combined for 19 points for the defending champion FEU, which remained unbeaten in the tournament backed by Smart, Fresh Gear, Colt Commercial, Powerbest Mrktg. Inc., Jumbo Plastic Linoleum, Hapee Toothpaste and Insular Square of Cebu.

Stung by UE, 81-79, last Tuesday, the Eaglets vented their ire on the Tiger Cubs, 104-81, behind the troika of Matt and Mike Nieto and Thirdy Ravena to tie idle National University and Mapua at second with 4-1 slates.

Mapua also bounced back from a loss to NU by downing Jose Rizal University, 72-62, as Daniel Aguirre hit 21 points and grabbed eight boards.

In the other game, the UE Junior Warriors kept their semis bid alive by downing University of Perpetual Help, 61-55, through the 19-point performance of Kent Kantorno.
