PGF junior series resumes at Splendido
MANILA, Philippines - Sixteen more slots are up for grabs in the third of four elimination legs of the Philippine Golf Foundation Junior Masters Series set today and tomorrow at the rolling Splendido Taal Country Club course in Nasugbu, Batangas.
A total of 64 junior players are seeing action in four age-group divisions for boys and girls, hoping to join the third batch for qualifiers to the national grand finals on May 21-24 at the Alabang Country Club course of the series launched by the Philippine Golf Foundation and the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines to further develop the sport.
The top two finishers in girls and boys Class A (15-17 years), Class B (13-14), Class C (11-12) and Class D (9-10) will clinch spots in the finals which will use the match play format featuring eight players per class.
The field in the tourney, serving as the Southern Luzon stop of the PGF Junior Masters Series and the seventh leg of the JGFP Summer Circuit backed by the International Container Terminal Services Inc., also includes the PGF Developmental Tour for kids eight years and below the JGFP is conducting in coordination with The Junior Golfers League.
“We’ve had two elimination legs so far and we’re looking forward to an intense competition for this week’s concluding leg. So far, so good,†said JGFP president Luigi Tabuena who is working closely with PGF chair Cesar Buenaventura on the developments of the fledgling series.
Already in the finals are the qualifiers from the first two legs hosted by Camp John Hay in Baguio and Cebu Country Club in Cebu. They will also be joined by the survivors of the fourth and last eliminations leg at the Del Monte Golf Club course in Bukidnon.
Returning to contest the slots are some of the standouts of the major legs of the current circuit including the Pancake House Junior World qualifiers and the Faldo Series Asia like Daniella Uy, Sophia Blanco, Aidric Chan, Jolo Magcalayo and Josh Jorge.
