Gonzales, Amistad lead cast in First Gen tennis

MANILA, Philippines - Marcen Gonzales and Nicole Amistad seek to sustain their top form as they vie in the fifth First Gen-Juntaphil Metro Age Group Tennis Championships, which unfolds May 6 at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

Gonzales and Amistad dominated their rivals to rule the 18-and-under class in the recent Juntaphil Barcelona Cup in Baguio with the duo installed as the players to beat in the upcoming seven-day, Group I tournament featuring the country’s leading junior netters and upcoming stars.

The draw will be held tomorrow at 12 noon, also at the Philta office. Format is best-of-three regular sets.

The event, presented by First Gen Corp. and sponsored by Smart Communications, is sanctioned by the Philippine Tennis Association and organized by the Junior Tennis Association of the Philippines (Juntaphil) with Technifibre as the official ball.

Gonzales is also set to play in the 16-U class which he also ruled in Baguio, along with fellow winners Erica Manduriao (16-and-U), Enrique Jugo and Gia Sagandoy (12-and-U), Camille So, daughter of former national player and Davis Cup mainstay Roland So, and Cenon Gonzales (14-and-U) and Nico Florendo (10-unisex).

Meanwhile, registration ends today at 5 p.m. at the Philta office.
