DPS holds PSL Swim Circuit 42nd leg May 12

MANILA, Philippines - The Diliman Preparatory School is holding the 42nd leg of the Philippine Swim League Series May 12 at the DPS Swimming Center on Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City.

The competition, dubbed second Nikki Coseteng Motivational Swimming Splash, is open to boys and girls aged five years and above.  The competition level will be A, B, C, with nine medals to be given to winners in each event.

“I believe swimmers will keep on improving by giving them monthly competitions and sending them to International competitions which PSL had been doing,” Coseteng said.

“The result is overwhelming in the recently concluded 2013 Palarong Pambansa where all PSL swimmers, led by Rafael Barreto,  won the gold, silver and bronze in some events,” she said.

Barreto broke the 200m freestyle with a time of 2:08.12 and won five individual gold medals. The NCR team, which won the 4x50m medley relay in girls secondary, was composed of  PSL swimmers, Coseteng aded.

More than 400 swimmers from Bicol, Pampanga, Bulacan, Angeles, Quezon province, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Bohol, Quezon City, Laguna and NCR are competing in the event held in honor of Coseteng, a sports advocate and swimming patron.

Highlight of the event is the participation of street children from the Center for Community Transformation (CCT).

The center, headed by Ruth Callanta, boasts of a 25-meter pool to train its young swimmers as part of its curriculum.

Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded to the top three winners in each category.  Trophies will be awarded to the  most outstanding swimmers in each level and category  – 6 yrs and under, 7-8, 9-10- 11-12, 13-14, 15-17 and 18 and over.
