Heavy Bombers pick up third win at expense of Altas
MANILA, Philippines -- The Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers, La Salle Lady Archers and the University of the Philippines Integrated School Junior Maroons repulsed their respective rivals to move up in the leaderboard of the ongoing 19th Fr. Martin Summer Cup basketball tournament at the St. Placid gymnasium in San Beda College-Manila in Mendiola.
Paolo Pontejos drilled in 22 points for the Heavy Bombers, who stopped the University of Perpetual Help Altas, 74-72, in Group A of the senior division.
Inna Corcuera, meanwhile, unloaded 19 points for the Lady Archers as they crushed AMA Computer College, 101-47, in the women’s division.
Diego Dario shot 35 points for the Junior Maroons, who won over San Beda-B, 99-92, in the junior division.
The Heavy Bombers improved their win-loss record to 3-2 in their bracket, while the Altas absorbed their first setback in the outings.
The Lady Archers picked up their second straight win, and are ahead of the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws, who won over the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses, 59-56.
Lupin Gesalan fired 13 points for the Lady Tams, who tied the Tigresses in second at 1-1.
