MANILA, Philippines - Some of the country’s top non-master chess players compete in the elimination round of the 2013 National Chess Championships May 4-8 at the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) canteen on Vito Cruz, Manila.
The tournament is open to all Filipino chess players who must be members in good standing of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP).
The nine-round Swiss System competition is organized by the NCFP in cooperation with the PSC and Philippine Olympic Committee.
The men’s division is open to players with NCFP rating of 2199 and below as of April 1. The women’s division is open to unrated women’s players or those with NCFP rating of 1999 or below as of April 1.
The top 30 players from the men’s division advance to the semifinal round where they join seeded players – International Masters, FIDE Masters and National Masters and players with NCFP rating of 220 or bove as of April 1.
The top 20 women players qualify for the semis where they join women IMs, FM and NM players and those with NCFP rating of 2000 and above as of April 1.
The men’s division offers P7,000 to the champion, P4,000 to second and P3,000 to third.
The women’s champion earns P5,000, runner-up P3,000, and third P2,000.
Prizes are scaled down to 15th for the men’s section and to 10th for the women’s.
