MANILA, Philippines - Three major events – the Bridgestone Philippine Superbikes Series, 2013 FDR Philippine Scooter Racing Championships and the 2013 Philippine Underbone King Championships – launch the 2013 Petronas Philippine Motorsports season Sunday at the Batangas Racing Circuit.
Reigning champ Raniel Resuello of Ducati RAR Castrol Motolite Racing Team guns for a back-to-back crown aboard a 2012 Ducati 1199 Panigale in the 2013 Bridgestone Phl Superbikes Series sanctioned by Superbikes Racing Association (SBRA) with Bridgestone as the official Superbikes tires.
Miko Erich Montano of JVT Racing and Anthony Roman of Castrol-Dudshop are also set to defend their titles respectively in the 2013 FDR Philippine Scooter Racing Championships and the 2013 FDR Philippine Underbone King Championships, both sanctioned by the Underbone and Scooters Racing Association (USRA) and supported by FDR as the official tires.
Spicing up the event is the three-leg Ducati Cup 2013 where Ducati riders will dispute the titles in the Standard, Masters, Superbikes Novice and Superbikes Expert classes.
Resuello sees a tougher challenge for the Superbikes crown against fellow young riders Anthony Roman, Marvin Mangulabnan and Benjo Mendoza of Petronas and the comebacking Dashi Watanabe as well as veteran bets John Defensor and Toti Alberto in the Superbikes Expert Open and Superbikes Overall classes.
Also up for grabs in the 2013 Bridgestone Philippine Superbikes Series are the titles in the 400cc Novice, 400cc Expert, Superbikes Novice, Superbikes Intermediate and the Superbikes Masters divisions.
Montano eyes a repeat of his title feats in the 180cc Automatic Scooter class against JVT Racing teammate Arlan de la Cruz, and Ivan Santiago; and in the 160cc Automatic Scooter division against Marvin Marquez, Romer Corbe and Edmar Quiambao.
Juver Mirasol also aims to keep the 130cc Automatic Scooter crown against Vrei-AR Suba, Jeffrey Roland Tria, Mark Adrian Tan and Mark Christopher Buraga.
Roman is looking forward to a three-peat in the 2013 Philippine Underbone King Championships as he goes up against Marvin Mangulabnan, Castrol-Dudshop teammate Nino Fabian, Rizaldy Canare, Jaime Barcial and Masato Fernando in the 150cc Open class.
It will be an open race for the 130cc Open crown among Clint Nolasco,John Allen Mendez, James Aldrin Mendez and Tracy Soyangco while James Aldrin Mendez and Hajime Tadachi are also set to defend their crowns in the 115cc Open and 115cc Novice divisions, respectively.
