Tio, McDonald top John Hay Invit’l

MANILA, Philippines - Romy Tio and Steve McDonald combined for 126 points to capture the overall gross crown while John Marasigan and Patrick Villanueva took the overall net title with 127 points in the ninth Camp John Hay Invitational tournament at the John Hay layout in Baguio recently.

Ed Montenegro and partner Rochie Hojilla posted a 116 to pull off a one-point victory over Shean Bedi and Theody Pascual, who carded a 115, in Class A of the club’s premier member-guest tournament presented by Golforce and sponsored by MegaFiber, RizGolf Sports Marketing, Air Asia and Rocky Mountain Café that drew 160 players, including CJHGC chairman Bob Sobrepeña.

John Marasigan and Patrick Villanueva shot 127 points then nipped Yang Tae Hwa and An Sung Yul, who also pooled a 127, in the tiebreak to snatch the Class B plum in the 36-hole competition that featured the best ball and aggregate format under the Modified Stableford scoring system.

Bogs Abubo and Cesar Canlas likewise hacked out a tiebreak thriller over Clifford Oliva and Armen Posadas to claim the Class C diadem after both teams posted similar 127s in the event backed by hole-in-one sponsors The Turf Company, Wilson and RizGolf Sports Marketing and supported by Sherwood Hills Golf Club, The Cliffs Golf and Beach Club, Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club, Canon, The Manor at Camp John Hay, Le Chef and Bishop Carlito J. Cenzon Foundation.

Jun Pagador and Linda Tally came through with a 127 to post a three-point romp over Nic Ventura and Cris Ismael, who assembled a 124, in Class D while Rudy Lockey and Ben Jacinto topped the Sponsor’s division in the tournament also backed by Seafood Island, Hill Station, Dusit Thani, BHM Construction, Marcons Suites Townhouses, Sumo Sam, Nature’s Spring, Poblador, Bautista and Reyes Law Office, CJH DevCo, The Forest Lodge, Herr Bautista and Bond Holden Mangaoang.
