Lady Eagles seek elims sweep vs Patriots

MANILA, Philippines - Ateneo goes for a sweep of the Group A elims as it takes on a La Salle-Dasmariñas side needing a victory for a berth in the quarterfinals even as Adamson tries to bounce back against Arellano in the Shakey’s V-League Season 10 First Conference at The Arena in San Juan today.

The Lady Eagles are looking good after sweeping their first three games, including over title contenders UST Tigresses and the San Sebastian Lady Stags, making them the odds-on favorites against the Lady Patriots in the 4 p.m. Group A clash.

But the Cavite-based squad is going flat out for a victory, not only to stop the Lady Eagles but more importantly to nail a berth in the quarters of the tournament sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza.

With a 1-1 card, La Salle-Dasma needs to win one of its last two matches to advance although the Lady Patriots will have to double their effort to measure up with the fancied back-to-back defending champions.

This means Jennifer Manzano, Monique Tiangco and Mae Navidad and setter Chie Saet must step up against the star-studded Ateneo side led by Alyssa Valdez, Fille Cainglet, Jem Ferrer, Marge Tejada and guest players Rachel Anne Daquis and Leal Patnongon.

La Salle-Dasma will play SSC on the final elims day next Sunday.

Adamson and Arellano, meanwhile, clash in the 2 p.m. opener in a Group B match with the Lady Falcons (1-1) hoping to join the unbeaten National U Lady Bulldogs (3-0) and the Lady Chiefs (2-1) in the next round of the tournament backed by Mikasa and Accel.

Adamson is trying to rebound from a four-set loss to NU while Arellano is oozing with confidence following a four-set win over Perpetual Help last Tuesday.

The Adamson-Arellano game will be shown on GMA News TV Channel 11 at 1 p.m. tomorrow with the Ateneo-La Salle-Dasma duel to be shown Tuesday, also starting at 1 p.m., according to the organizing Sports Vision.
