Café France routs Hog’s Breath for No.2

MANILA, Philippines - Café France put on a dominating performance to clobber Hog’s Breath, 75-58, yesterday and wrest solo second while EA Regen stunned Cebuana Lhuillier, 73-69, in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at The Arena in San Juan.
New recruit Moncrief Rogado came off the bench to fire 17 points, Mike Silungan had 15 markers while Marion Magat chipped in 14 points for the Bakers, who closed in on league leading Blackwater Sports (5-1) with a 5-2 card.
“It feels good to bounce back from a loss. Hopefully, we could build on this with the help of Moncrief,†said Café France coach Egay Macaraya.
Silungan took charge early for Café France, scoring 13 points while Rogado backed him up with 11 markers as the Bakers raced to a 45-23 lead at halftime and never looked back.
The duo also combined for six of the team’s triples in the first half.
The Razorbacks slid to 1-6.
Earlier, Ian Sangalang scored on a putback in the closing seconds as EA Regen repulsed Cebuana Lhuillier to wheel back into contention in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at The Arena in San Juan.
Sangalang’s basket off a miss by Raymund Almazan put EA Regen ahead, 70-69, with 55 seconds remaining in the contest then Team Delta forced a 24-second violation leading to a basket by Almazan for the victory.
It was EA Regen’s third win in five games as it tied defending champion NLEX while Cebuana Lhuillier dropped to joint fourth with Boracay Rhum at 4-3.
Jimbo Aquino scored 19 points while Almazan tallied 14 and pulled down 11 rebounds for his second straight double double for Team Delta, which had a strong start but needed to scramble at endgame to pound out the victory.
In the other game, Jumbo Plastic snapped a four-game skid with a 80-75 victory over Informatics.
Marvin Hayes scored 17 points, Jason Escueta chipped in 13 markers while Jett Vidal and Macky Acosta had 11 points apiece for the Giants, who improved to 2-5.
Jeric Teng poured 21 points and Rocky Acidre had 17 for Informatics, which remains winless in six games.
Cebuana Lhuillier battled back from a 15-point deficit in the first half and led 64-58 midway in the fourth quarter. But Team Delta toughened up on defense, forcing a series of turnovers and holding their rivals to just two field goals in the last six minutes.
