Amazona annexes 16-U, 18-U crowns in Davao leg

MANILA, Philippines - Jeleardo Amazona disposed of two rivals in the finals to annex the boys’ 16- and 18-and-under crowns in the Davao leg of the Head 2013 Junior Satellite Circuit national tennis age-group tournament at the GSIS tennis courts in Davao City recently.

Amazona of Davao Oriental surprised No. 1 Angelo Factora of Cotabato City, 6-2, 6-4, to cop the 16-under crown then crushed Mikko Ringia of Cotabato, 7-5, 7-5, to pocket the premier 18-under plum. 

“It feels great to win two titles at the start of this event. I hope to win more,” said Amazona.

Action in the circuit resumes this week with the second leg in Gen. Santos City.

Lenelyn Milo defeated Jenni Celine Dizon, 6-3, 6-3, to capture the girls’ 18-under singles crown in the tournament backed by Smart Sports, Chris Sports, Meralco, Maynilad, Toalson and Head, the official tennis ball.

Cagayan De Oro’s Carmela Llavore copped the 16- and 14-under girls’ singles by beating Jenni Celine Dizon, 6-1, 6-3, and Jed Vallie Aquino, 6-0, 6-1, respectively. 

Amazona and Llavore also earned the best player honors in the tournament, which drew 200 participants from all over Mindanao and Davao City.
