Potenciano, Anton rule race of champs

NASCAR-Team Philippines veteran drivers Mike Potenciano and Carlos Anton showed their championship caliber form that made them multi-titled racing icons as they captured the top honors in the Race of Champions held recently in San Pablo, Laguna.

To even up the field, all the qualified champion drivers used the Chevy Cruze race car in the race thru the highly technical autocross track set up in town center of San Pablo.

Local hero and International racer Mike Potenciano topped the time sheets in one minute, 5.92 seconds over six-time Philippine Hillclimb champion Anton (1:07.15), Group 4 Hillclimb champion Alfie Concepcion (1:10.24) and Formula BMW driver Gaby de la Merced (1:10.86).

Anton, however, got his revenge over Potenciano in the Open Division. He posted the best time of the day using his trusty Mark Young-Hornitex-prepared CRX clocking 36.81 seconds over Potenciano’s 37.00 second run using the same car.  Current Philippine Autocross champion Danby Yapchitchay came in third in 37.78 seconds aboard a Subaru STI.
