MANILA, Philippines - Col. Danilo Gamboa (ret.) was elected president of the Philippine National Shooting Association (PNSA) unopposed after his apparent rival withdrew at the last minute during the association’s general elections yesterday at the PNSA office inside the Philsports Complex in Pasig.
Gamboa, 75, will take over the job vacated by Globalport owner Mikee Romero, who politely declined to head the association due to his involvement to several projects, including his family-owned businesses.
But Romero was happy that his former secretary-general won the fight without going through a battle.
“The PNSA directors elected the right guy for the job. Maganda rin ang composition ng officers. It’s a working set of officer,†said Romero. “I’m sure, Col. Gamboa will continue what we have started and he might even surpass.â€
Gamboa, who won a silver medal in the rapid fire (pistol) in his last year as member of the Philippine team in the 1983 Singapore SEA Games, said producing another world-class shooter is his main goal.
“I don’t want to put a mental block on the shooters like pang SEA Games or Asian Games lang tayo. We can be the best in the world as long as we discipline ourselves,†said Gamboa. “Shooting is a natural sport for the Filipinos.â€
Also elected are Gabriel Tong as chairman, Roland Doncillo as vice-chairman, Richard Fernandez as vice president for national affairs, Maria Marcia Cleofas as VP for International Affairs, Aristotle Viray as secretary-general, Raymond Limcao as treasurer and Emerito Concepcion as corporate secretary.
