Mikee backs Gamboa in PNSA poll

MANILA, Philippines - Sportsman Mikee Romero, outgoing president of the Philippine National Shooting Association, is throwing his all-out support to secretary-general Col. Danilo Gamboa (ret.) who is bidding to become the next president of the group.

The 15-man board will convene today at the PNSA office inside Philsports Complex in Pasig City and elect the new set of officers with Gamboa looming as the top candidate.

“He has been with the association for the longest time and has served as my sec-gen during my short term so I believe he’s the right guy for job,” said the Globalport owner. “He’s very hard-working so I’m sure the association will be in good hands if he wins in the election.”

“He has the support of the majority because they know that Col. Gamboa knows the true meaning of work. He’s a hard-worker,” said Romero, who has politely declined to run again owing to his involvement in several projects of his family-owned business.

Romero took over the remainder of the four-year term left by Olympian Art Macapagal in June 2011 after he was overwhelmingly voted by the directors of the five aggrupations – shotgun, rifle, pistol, practical shooting and non-ISSF.

Representatives of shotgun, rifle and non-ISSF are expected to support Gamboa’s candidacy.

Though he’s no longer a PNSA official, Romero vowed to continue helping the association.

“I will continue to help the association so long as they have good projects for the national team, especially for the young shooters,” said Romero, who left the association fully satisfied having fulfilled his responsibility the best way he can.

He cited the installation of the first electronic target system at the Marine Shooting Range and the expanding of the PNSA members as among his major contributions in the short time that he served as association president.
