14 teams compete in CAL tourney

MANILA, Philippines - A total of 14 teams, including eight in the men’s division, will vie for the crowns in the Collegiate Athletic League summer basketball tournament which gets going April 6 at the Trinity University of Asia.

The National University Bulldogs and Lyceum of the Philippines University Lady Pirates head their respective divisions, both looking to keep the crown they won in big fashions last year.

A three-game bill usher in the new CAL season with San Beda-Alabang clashing with St. Paul’s College-Quezon City at 9 a.m. and SBC-A facing De La Salle University-Dasmariñas at 10:30 a.m.

Colegio de San Lorenzo and returning school Olivarez College clash in the other game.

The school based-league, now on its third season, is supported by PSC Commissioner Akiko Thomson-Guevarra, Krooberg Outdoor Gear, and Hoop It Up and sanctioned by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas.

Others seeing action in the two month-long tournament are UAAP schools Far Eastern University, University of Sto. Tomas, and Don Bosco Technical College in the women’s division while Trinity University of Asia, Enderun and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa complete the men’s cast.

The tournament is organized by LAN Sports and Events which also organizes sports science seminars.
