MANILA, Philippines – Louisville guard Kevin Ware had a freak injury that conjured an outpour of support for the fallen student-athlete in Cardinal’s game against the Duke Blue Devils.

The accident happened in the first half of the Midwest Regional Final of the NCAA tournament and the injury is now trending in the social media networking site Twitter with support for Ware.

He was taken immediately into surgery after the game to repair the broken fracture at the Methodist Hospital.

Here is a video for the gruesome injury he suffered:

Ware though was a symbol of strength for his teammates and asked them to win the game for him.

''The bone's 6 inches out of his leg and all he's yelling is, 'Win the game, win the game,''' Pitino said. ''I've not seen that in my life. Pretty special young man.'' Said Louisville coach Rick Pitino in an article for the Associated Press.

The top-seeded Cardinals went on to win the game routing the Blue Devils in a dominating 85-63 victory. (With reports from the Associated Press).
