Ex-PBA import arrested for assaulting cop

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – A former PBA import was arrested today after reportedly assaulting a police officer at a hotel in Quezon City.

Jamelle Cornley, who was a former import of the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, was detained at the Quezon City Police District Station 10 after allegedly punching PO2 Armando Lazatin at the Sir Williams Hotel along Timog Avenue.

According to a radio report, Cornely was furious after purportedly failing to find three female prostitutes who he claimed stole P60,000 in cash from him.

Responding to a call by hotel officials, Lazatin and another policeman arrived at the scene, after which the punching incident happened.

Lazatin was taken to the East Avenue Medical Center, the report said, adding that the cop is in critical condition.

Cornley, meanwhile, denied punching the police officer.

The suspect was a key performer in Rain or Shine's 2012 PBA Governors Cup title run, bagging that conference’s Best Import Award. He is reportedly set to leave for the United States on Sunday.
