Beermen seek sixth straight win, ABL lead

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - San Miguel Beer aims to push its winning streak to six games in its Asean Basketball League (ABL) outing against the Singapore Slingers this afternoon at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

A win will give the Beermen (8-3) a share of the lead with idle Indonesia Warriors (9-3). Game time is set at 3 p.m.

The last time both teams met during the ABL Hoopfest in Ho Chi Minh City, the Beermen routed the Slingers with a 73-53 score that set the tone for an 80-55 rout over the Saigon Heat two days later.

“We were able to break our win-loss pattern early in the tournament. And the key for us was not really our firepower but our defense,”said San Miguel Beer head coach Leo Austria.

In the four of its five straight wins, San Miguel limited its opponent to just below 60 points, with most of the defensive stops happening at the paint.
