Cyna makes finals but Jayvie falls in South Australia am

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Cyna Rodriguez stayed on course of a sweep of the South Australia Women’s Amateur crown when she held off Caitlin Roberts, 2&1, yesterday to arrange a showdown with Jenny Lee for the Match Play crown at The Grange Golf Club’s West Course in Australia.

Rodriguez, who set a course-record five-under 68 at the par-73 Flagstaff Hill layout in topping the 36-hole stroke play elims and clinching the Vesta Cup last Tuesday, came through with clutch par putts in the closing holes to thwart Roberts and gain a crack at the crown.

But ICTSI-The Country Club teammate Jayvie Agojo fell short in her bid to make it an all-Pinay finale as she dropped a 2&1 setback to Lee in their own side of the semis clash.

Rodriguez, also the reigning Hong Kong Ladies Amateur Open champion, and Lee dispute the crown in a marathon 36-hole finals Sunday.

Over in Thailand, Princess Superal slowed down with a 68 after a 66 and dropped to fifth in the Thailand Ladies Amateur Open at the Bangsai Country Club late Thursday.

Superal was in fine form but just couldn’t close in on Thai Sherman Santiwiwatthanapong, who led the siege on the par-72 layout with a seven-under 65.

The Thai ace pooled a 128 after two rounds and posted a two-shot lead over compatriot Panarat Tanapolbunyarat, who had a 130 after a 64, heading to the final 18 holes of the annual event.

Another Thai pair, Supamas Sangchan and Ornicha Konsunthea, stood at 133s after a 66 and 67, respectively.

Dottie Ardina bounced back with a 67 after a so-so 71 but fell behind by 10 while Sarah Ababa had a 146 after a 73.  Sofia Chabon and Abby Arevalo assembled a 151 and 156 after a 74 and 78, respectively.
