300 riders vie in Globe Cordillera Challenge

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Globe Telecom and the Cordillera Conservation Trust (CCT) launched over the weekend the “most epic” Globe Cordillera Challenge cycling event to be participated in by about 300 mountain bikers from Metro Manila and Northern Luzon on May 4.

With a distance of 65 kilometers, this year’s route is expected to test the stamina and endurance of the bikers as they face almost 3,000 meters of elevation gain and loss.  For the first in two years, participants only had to pedal for 40 kilometers while 2012’s trail was the shortest at 27 kilometers though the most difficult to navigate.

Since Globe Cordillera Challenge 4 is not a race, participants are simply timed to measure their performance, thus, even recreational bikers can join as long as they are physically fit to do mountain biking.

“We consider this trail as the most epic since Globe Cordillera Challenge was launched in 2010.  Not only is this the longest but it is also the most scenic,” said JP Alipio, executive director of Cordillera Conservation Trust, a non-stock, non-profit organization that provides environmental solutions and sustainable development strategies for the Cordillera mountain region.
