Pugo Adventure cops Corp Cup seniors title
MANILA, Philippines - Pugo Adventure leaned on Park Jong Won’s sizzling performance to foil defending champion Camp John Hay and capture the seniors crown in the 25th Camp John Hay Philippine Corporate Cup at CJH Golf Club in Baguio City last week.
Park scored 55 and 60 points under the Molave scoring system to power the La Union-based firm to a whopping 18-point romp over Royal Northwoods and CJH in the 36-hole tournament founded by former Philippine Sports Commission chair Cecil Hechanova in 1989 and now headed by Southwoods chair Bob Sobrepeña.
Jun Oribello had 50 and 49 points while Richard Sali added 43 and 53 for Pugo Adventure, which pooled a 148 in the first round before closing out with a 162 for a 310 aggregate. Park also ran away with the individual crown.
Royal Northwoods, led by Tomas Joson, Peregrin de Guzman and Butch Bakunawa, made an impressive 151 start but wavered with a 141 for a 292 total for joint second with the host squad, bannered by Fred Puckett, Clyde Cabreros and Rommel Gomez, seized control in the first round with a 153 but faltered with a 139 for a 292.
Texas came in fourth at 287 while Megafiber Golf Team shot a 280 for fifth in the annual event sponsored by The Manor at Camp John Hay, RizGolf Sports Marketing, Ricoh Philippines, Titania Wine Cellar, Nice Day Coffee and Le Chef, Premier Cars BMW and Manor Hotel.
Sharing the spotlight was Jun Fernandez of Asian Energy System who scored a hole-in-one on No. 15 and won a Toyota Innova J Gas courtesy of Rene So of Toyota Baguio.
Tony Kong of Dipza Team also aced No. 6 and took home a Kymco Visa R110 Motorcycle courtesy of Angelito Tiglao of Supreme Bike.
In other results, Camp John Hay Forest Lodge dominated Group I, Davao Tuna Grill 1 topped Group 2, AMSI Shakey’s Calamba Group 3, Repsol-Imarflex I Group 4 and Rizgolf 6 Group 5..
