Enrile lauds Phl shooters
MANILA, Philippines - Cagayan Rep. Jack Enrile, founder of the Philippine Practical Shooting Association, cited Team Philippines for its superb performance, which included a gold medal sweep in four of five divisions, in the 2013 Handgun Championship held recently in Rotorua, New Zealand.
“That was a magnificent feat that once again showcased the superb quality of Filipino shooters and their ability to prevail over world-class competition. It was a huge win that deserves the commendation of our country’s sports leaders,†said Enrile.
The Philippines bagged 63 medals – 30 gold, 22 silver and 11 bronze – in the competition which drew some 750 entries from 25 countries.
The event was under the auspices of the Australasian International Practical Shooting Confederation.
Enrile also congratulated PPSA president and Sultan Kudarat Gov. Suharto Teng Mangudadatu who headed the delegation.
Gold medalists in the individual competitions were Beijing Olympics veteran and six-time world champion Jethro Dionisio, Philip Cua, Daniel James Jacinto, Janette Gonzaga, Diomari Ivan Tayag, Grace Tamayo, Wilfredo Anglo, Nelson Lee, Edcel John Gino, Nelson Uygongco and Jeufro Emil Lejano, also a veteran of several international shooting competitions.
In the overall standard division, the Philippines won the championship through the team of Dionisio, Edward Rivera, John Cristopher Gotamco an Wilfredo Martin Jr.
