HK’s Pryde steers HIFI to Boracay Cup win
MANILA, Philippines - Hong Kong’s HiFi, commanded by Neil Pryde, leaned on a final-day charge to pull off a stunning come-from-behind win in the Boracay Cup Regatta 2013 held recently in the island of Boracay.
Thanks to a high-end sailboat and brilliant stewardship, Pryde put on a remarkable pace in the final day to beat series leader Karakoa which was skippered by Ray Ordoveza.
Karakoa finished 11 minutes behind HiFi while Jelik of Frank Pong was a close third in the event participated by 300 world-renowned sailors from 15 clubs.
In the IRC Cruiser Race, Centennial II, manned by Martin Tanco, emerged as champion while Jun Avecilla’s Selma Star Calibre ROX finished second and Peter Sorensen’s Sorcerer wound up third.
Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Authority (TIEZA) general manager Mark Lapid awarded the trophies to the winners.
Now on its third edition, the event was headed by Philippine Olympic Committee board member Cynthia Carrion and Jerry Rollin, in cooperation with the Department of Tourism. It was sanctioned by the Philippine Sailing Association.
Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, TIEZA, I Love Manny O. Wines, Ibiza Beach Club, Movenpick Hotel, Fila Sportswear, Cebu Pacific, 2Go, Boracay Regency, The District, Discovery Shores, The Boracay Beach Resort, Ralph’s Wines and Spirits, the Provincial Government of Aklan and the Municipality of Malay also backed the event.
